Orkney's culture and history bring thousands of visitors to the islands every year. Holidaymakers come to see the wildlife and archaeology and a growing number of people also come to the islands to trace their ancestors.

Others will make a special trip for culture, such as the acclaimed Orkney Folk Festival and the St Magnus International Festival, or to buy local crafts and art.

There is a packed programme of events year-round in Orkney. Useful online resources to keep up-to-date with what's happening include the Visit Orkney calendar and the Outdoor Orkney calendar.

There is also a daily diary of events on BBC Radio Orkney's Around Orkney programme, broadcast on weekdays, from 7.30 to 8am, on 93.7 FM, and Orkney's weekly newspaper The Orcadian is full of information about what is happening in the islands.
