The first polled cattle in Orkney

Polled cattleAnyone living in Orkney knows how hard the wind can blow and tradition says it was a fierce storm which created the first hornless, or polled, cattle in the islands.

It is said a severe storm blew off the horns of cattle which were tethered in Rackwick.

They were standing head on to the gale, which swifly blew their horns off, thus creating the first polled cattle in Orkney.
