The Neptunia was a steam trawler from Harve, France which became stranded on the rocks at Brims, Walls on 21 February 1936 during thick fog.
Her crew of 41 were all rescued by the Longhope Lifeboat and a pig and a cat which were on board managed to make their own way to the shore. The cat lived happily for many years afterwards and apparently has many descendents. A dog who was reputed to be a strong swimmer did not survive.
The boat was a total loss. The Lifeboat Coxswain Billy Dass was awarded a medal for the rescue.
The online Orkney Image Library has photographs of the survivors, the wreck and members of the Longhope Lifeboat crew.
