Juniata, wreck site, Kirkwall

Juniata, originally named Sprucol, was built in Sunderland in 1918 and registered in London. She was sunk as a blockship on 7 April 1940 on the seaward side of Barrier No 4 between Burray and South Ronaldsay. In 1949 Juniata was refloated as part of a salvage attempt. Whilst being towed away, intended for scrap, the ship ran aground and beached off Inganess Bay, where she can still be seen.
