SMS Markgraf, wreck site, Scapa Flow
One of the biggest of the German battleships, SMS Markgraf was built in 1909 by AG Weser in Bremen. Interned in Scapa Flow after the Armistice of 1918, she was scuttled in 1919. Her captain and First Officer were shot as a group of Royal Marines tried to stop the scuttling.
SMS Markgraf still lies beneath the waters of Scapa Flow, the deepest of the German wrecks. More information can be found here.
