St Lawrence Kirk, Burray

Sitting at the south end of the Sands o Bu, this old kirk dates from the early 17th century but may have an older foundation date. Now a roofless ruin, it was the main place of worhsip for the island and appears to have been rebuilt several times. The partial remains contain many carved door jambs and lintels. The graveyard was in use until recent times, the stones telling stories of infant mortality and accidents at sea.  The Burray War Memorial is also  found here.
