Shakespeare wreck site, Stromness

The Black Craig, north of Stromness, witnessed many shipwrecks as vessels were driven onto the rocks by strong winds and tides. One of the best reported was that of the steamer Shakespeare which ran aground on 18 December 1907. Bound for her home port of Hull with a full cargo of fish, four of her crew of ten were drowned and are now buried at Warbeth.
